Sports Drinks? Wicked or a Waste?

145535_powerade_isotonic.jpg

I have just returned from a course, looking at the nutrition and health of athletic students aged 10 -14.
The latest scientific study tells us that Sports Drinks are useless in advancing the recovery and energy levels of young athletes aged 10-14.

1. How do you classify a person as an athletic student? What other categories can you name for students when it comes to sports/Pe?
2. What sports drinks are you aware of?
3. How do they sell/advertise their products?
4. What are the ingredients of a sports drink?
5. Prices? How much are they?

So the big question is.....Why do young people take sports drinks at this young age?

You must survey at least 10 classmates and gather reasons why they would consume sports drinks. Make a graph to display your findings.

Can you find out why sports drinks are ineffectual for young athletes but do work with adult athletes?

What is the alternative? What options do young athletes have?

Present your findings in a similar way to the BTN style journalism task we did on the state election.

Hi everyone,

We are going to have a look at an American campaign to encourage people not to smoke. Your task is to read 4 of the real life stories, and complete a Venn diagram showing the similarities and differences to the people's stories and consequences.

We will split the task into 2 Venn diagrams. Draw 2 Venn diagrams in your book, and compare two stories. Then do the same again for the next 2 people.

At the end we will share the common similarities for all the people.
